Dr. Trish Devine and Dr. William T. L. Cox, stereotyping and bias researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, had been recruited by the Chancellor to help reduce incidents of bias and hate that had been happening on campus.
Dr. Cox was familiar with my work as a graphic designer and reached out to have me craft collateral, including posters, flyers, and brochures, for the campus. The materials needed to stick to the university’s general brand standards (hence the emphasis on white and red), and incorporated photographs from the university’s marketing department (by Jeff Miller and Bryce Richter).
The materials included information about how to overcome bias in yourself and what to do if you slip up and express bias, as well as pointing members of the campus community to available resources and how to report incidents of bias and hate. The large poster design and brochure covered all of that, while the smaller flyers worked as a set.
